College is a breath of fresh air for Harley Sawyer. She's ready for a new start, ready to test her boundaries and live outside of the strict rules she grew up with. But as much as she wants to carve a new identity for herself in a place where no one knows her complicated family history, she can't shake the good-girl persona she's always carried. Old habits die hard.

Jett King's attitude screams IDGAF. College for him is a necessary evil, a way out of the life that he hates so much, which is the only reason he's here. He just wants to (sometimes) show up to class, do the (minimum) requirements, and move (the fuck) on. Sure, fine. He has some interest in a few subjects, like Psychology. But that's mostly because he's trying to make sense of his screwed up past. Which is how he and Harley end up in the same class, partnered up for a group project. And neither of them are happy about it.
Jett sees Harley as cookie-cutter, boring. She's the quintessential college freshmen girl, caught up with trying to find her place on campus. Probably with the preppy, asshole crowd. For Harley, Jett's attitude sucks. He's self-centered and condescending. And let's be honest, his too-cool-for-school vibe is so cliché. They have absolutely nothing in common, and they're counting down the days until the semester is over so they can go their separate ways.

Until things change. And they realize that maybe they aren't that different after all. And maybe the other person is just who they need to discover exactly what they're looking for.

This is a book about finding oneself. It's a book about forgiveness. It's about reconciling our present selves with the past, especially a past that wasn't in our control. It's about realizing the humanity of the people in our lives, and while that isn't absolution, it could still hold the keys to a kind of salvation.
